Seattle and its surrounding suburbs form a metropolis that stretches from Arlington in the north to Olympia in the south, and from Snoqualmie Falls in the east to the western edge of the Kitsap Peninsula. This 100-mi-long, 40-mi-wide, roughly formed megacity is fragmented into slim inlets and forested islands by Puget Sound. Only one set of spans, the Tacoma Narrows suspension bridge and its newly minted twin, connect the mainland to the Kitsap Peninsula; car and passenger ferries are the alternative. The region is further subdivided by Lake Washington, separating Seattle from the Eastside, which you can cross on the Evergreen Point and Mercer Island floating bridges.
