Reasons to Go

Longmire. The Nisqually Gate in the southwest corner of the park was Mount Rainier's original entrance, and highlights of this area include the Longmire Historic District, Christine Falls, Glacier Bridge, and Narada Falls.

Paradise. Paradise, located 11 mi from Longmire on the south side of the park, has become Mount Rainier's most popular destination. Famous for its wildflower meadows in summer and its Nordic skiing in winter, there are also a number of good trails here. Be sure to visit the Jackson Memorial Visitor Center, Paradise Inn, and the Paradise Ranger Station.

Ohanapecosh. As you approach the park from the southeast, the first stop will be Ohanapecosh. When you're here, check out the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center, the Grove of Patriarchs, and Tipsoo Lake.

Sunrise/White River. The east side of the park is easy to visit in summer if you enter from the east side, but it's a long drive from the southwest entrance. Plan to see White River Wilderness Information Center, White River Ranger Station, White River Campground, and Sunrise, the highest point you can drive to in the park and the site of the Sunrise Visitor Center and Sunrise Day Lodge.

Carbon River/Mowich Lake. Before entering the northwest corner of the park, pay your entrance fees and pick up park brochures at the Wilderness Information Center in downtown Wilkeson. Don't miss the temperate forest near Carbon River entrance station, Carbon Glacier, and Mowich Lake.
