Williamsburg Winery

Fodor's Review:

Carrying on a Virginia tradition of wine making that began with early settlers, Virginia's largest winery produces 60,000 cases yearly. The winery offers guided tours, a well-stocked wine shop, a 17th-century tasting room, and a museum of wine-making artifacts. Be sure to give the cabernets and merlots a try. The Gabriel Archer Tavern serves a casual lunch daily and dinner Tuesday to Saturday (April-October only). Scheduled to open on the premises in 2007 is a 28-room country inn. The winery is off Route 199E. To get there, turn east on Brookwood Drive and left onto Lake Powell Road.

  • Cost: $7, includes tasting of 5-7 wines and a souvenir glass
  • Open: Apr.-Oct., Mon.-Sat. 10-6, Sun. 11-6; Nov.-Mar., Mon.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. 11-5
