Flowerdew Hundred

Fodor's Review:

Flowerdew Hundred was one of the earliest original land grants in Virginia, and played an important role in the Civil War for three days in 1864. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this working farm features a commemorative post windmill, a museum in a circa-1850 schoolhouse with exhibits on the plantation's history and its archaeological exploration, and a replicated 1820 detached kitchen housing exhibits on domestic slave life. You can also drive along 4 mi of riverfront, past archaeological sites, the site of Grant's Crossing, and Flowerdew's unique commemorative windmill.
