Indian Fields Tavern
Indian Fields Tavern Review
Because this restaurant is the best of only a few places to dine in the area, you may encounter a wait to be seated and served—especially at lunch, when visitors touring the nearby plantations descend. Dinner reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. Housed in a restored farmhouse, the tavern specializes in Southern dishes, especially regional specialties such as crab cakes and bread pudding. Other main dishes include pan-roasted oysters and tavern meat loaf. In season you can eat on the screened porch overlooking gardens. There's brunch on Sunday.

I have passed Indian Fields Tavern for many years and have wanted to dine there. For my 12th anniversary, my husband made reservations(6/3/2007). I was a little disappointed by the furniture that was setting around in the hallway. There was only one large table seated. It would have been nice to seated in a differnet area to enjoy our dinner. The produce delivery was not made and salads were limited. The warm spinach was the only salad offered. It was not warm, but room temp. and very greasy. My husband ordered the crab cake and fillet, and requested that the sauce be served on the side. It was prepared with the sauce on the top and the fillet was well done, not medium. The mashed potatoes were not hot. I ordered the pork with cheese grits. The grits were not fresh, but clumpy and warmed over without cheese. The food was not served hot but we were warned that the plates were hot, but again they were not. The waitress was nice enough but new and not well versed in the menu. We shared a bread pudding, but it was cold. Also, we had coffee and that was hot and very good. I guess I had looked forward to dining here for so long, that this was a big let down.
