Getting Here & Around

A five-minute pedestrian ferry makes traveling between Portsmouth and Norfolk easy. The Elizabeth River Ferry carries passengers (but no automobiles) between Waterside Festival Marketplace, in Norfolk, and Portsmouth's Olde Towne weekdays 7:15 am-11:45 pm, weekends 10:15 am-11:45 pm. Bikes and wheelchairs are allowed. Taking the ferry is more fun and normally faster than driving through the tunnel; it departs from Norfolk 15 minutes before and after every hour and leaves Portsmouth on the hour and half-hour.
