Fodor's Review

Popular cruises to quaint Smith Island in the Chesapeake Bay leave from Reedville. The 150-passenger ship Captain Evans and the 139-passenger air-conditioned Spirit of Chesapeake of Smith Island and Chesapeake Bay Cruises sail from the KOA Kampground at Smith Point on Route 802. The 13½-mi trip takes 1½ hours and passes a 5,000-acre waterfowl and wildlife refuge. Now a part of Maryland, Smith Island—a Methodist colony settled by British colonists from Cornwall in the early 1700s—can also be reached from Crisfield, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Lunch is available at several restaurants on the island. Cruise reservations are required. Call ahead for the schedule and fare.

My family recently booked a two way travel on this ferry for a long weekend. The trip to the island was uneventful but late in the day before we returned we were told that the ferry would not be making the trip. When I asked for their plan to return us from the island I was told to try to make my own plans that included 3 ferries going through two different locations that would get us back to Reedville but nowhere near our car. I finally had to

make my own arrangements booking private passage on crabbing boat. This company left us stranded on the island without a backup plan, I repeat DO NOT BOOK THIS FERRY!!!!
