Fodor's Review

In an 1833 storefront that served as a general store, buttermilk-color walls display local art. Copper chandeliers and original heart-of-pine floors lend a warm glow; when the weather's fine, tables are brought out onto the sidewalk for alfresco dining. The menu changes with the seasons and features modern American cuisine with a Southern accent, including fresh fish and wild game. The award-winning wine list features the most diverse, multicultural varietal selections

in the Fredericksburg region.

Bistro Bethem Review

We opted to dine here based on the relatively few recommendations made by Fodors in the area. I was in Fredericksburg for two weeks for a conference. We were very pleasantly surprised at Bistro Bethem. The restaurant is relatively small, but comfortable and very casual. We dined at the bar rather than take a table. There's a decent selection of spirits and an adequate wine list. The menu changes daily, so the ingredients are fresh. We sampled the

Antipasti, which is a selection of Virginia delicacies: mustard, apple butter, spicy salami, ham, olives. We also had beet salads with goat cheese which was fantastic. The fried oysters were excellent as was the side of cole slaw. For main courses, we had lamb medallions, a burger and a pork loin. Ample portions throughout. The prices for main courses ranged from $16 to $38. All in all, we very much enjoyed the relaxing environment and superior local cuisine. The staff was very engaging and helpful in making recommendations. Should you find yourself in the Fredericksburg area, skip the chains and enjoy Bethem
