Richmond, Fredericksburg and the Northern Neck Sights

Centre Hill Museum Review

This, the third home of the Bolling family, was originally built in 1823. Having been remodeled twice since then, it illustrates changing architectural styles; it was and is the grandest home in Petersburg. Inside are ornate woodwork, plaster motifs, period furnishings, and an 1840s service tunnel in the basement that once connected the work area of the house to the street below. For many years, every January 24, the residents of Centre Hill heard the ghosts of Civil War soldiers marching up and down the staircase. You can listen for those boots at the annual Ghost Watch.
