Fodor's Review

Once patronized by Martha Washington and the Lee family, the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary is among the oldest apothecaries in the country (the reputed oldest is in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania). The shop now houses a museum of apothecary memorabilia, including one of the finest collections of apothecary bottles in the country. In fact, they have so many of these original bottles that it took six years to process them all. Tours include discussions of Alexandria life and medicine, as well as the history of the family that owned and ran the shop for 141 years.
