L'Auberge Chez François

L'Auberge Chez François Review

Set in the Virginia countryside, this sprawling restaurant serves the German-influenced cuisine of Alsace. The decor is romantic—a fireplace dominates the main dining room, and red-jacketed waiters courteously guide you through the all-inclusive six-course meal. Choucroute (sausage, duck, smoked pork, and foie gras served atop sauerkraut), and Le sauté gourmandise Papa Ernest—medallions of fillet of beef and veal, a grilled lamb chop, and half a roasted Maine lobster tail—are a few of the generously portioned entrées. You are asked in advance whether you'd like a soufflé. Say yes, unless the Alsatian plum tart is calling you instead. Make reservations up to a month in advance.

This is my absolute, hands down, favorite restaurant of all time. The setting is very cozy and the service is outstanding.
I have eaten here dozens of times over the last 11 years. I have never been disappointed in a single morsel there. While the price may seem high - it includes an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. Some appetizers and desserts are extra - but overall a great value compared to many fine restaurants in the DC area.
Another positive is the wine prices. Many of the prices are very reasonable for all budgets.
I highly recommend this gem for romance and special occasions with loved ones.
