Fodor's Review

You can relive the final days of steam trains at the O. Winston Link Museum, inside a renovated passenger train station. Link spent several years in the late 1950s and early 1960s photographing Norfolk & Western's last steam engines in the railroads of southwest Virginia. The hundreds of stunning black-and-white photographs on display do much more than evoke nostalgia—they also capture day-to-day life: a horse-drawn carriage awaiting an oncoming train, a locomotive rocketing past lovers watching a drive-in movie.

O. Winston Link Museum Review

Anyone who likes trains cannot miss this museum! Roanoke refurbished the old N&W passenger rail station to house Links' collection of train memorabilia. The museum itself is an example of early 1950's "modern" architecture. You must see the movie first and then view the photos of how the railroad impacted life in southwest VA. Walk the "rail walk" to the Va Museum of Transportation about a block away to view the real locomotives and other modes of

transportation in those days.
