Lynchburg

Lynchburg

Lynchburg was founded by John Lynch, a Quaker pacifist, but its most prominent landmark is Monument Terrace, a war memorial: at the foot and head of the 139 limestone and granite steps that ascend to the Old City Courthouse are statues honoring a World War I doughboy and a Confederate soldier. Lynchburg is also known as the home of evangelist Rev. Jerry Falwell, his Thomas Road Baptist Church, and Christian college, Liberty University.
