Bath County

Bath County, known as the Allegheny Highlands, is where Virginia's rugged outdoors and refined elegance intermingle most delightfully. Amid its steep ridges and dense forests is the Homestead, a historic and elegant resort. Forgotten when the C&O Railroad moved its headquarters from Clifton Forge, this region is going through a renaissance. The county's name is fitting: healing thermal springs were what originally brought visitors to town in the 1700s. The sulfurous waters still flow at Warm Springs, Hot Springs, and Bolar Springs, their temperatures ranging from 77°F to 104°F. Thomas Jefferson designed the octagonal buildings that house the Jefferson Pools, now operated by the Homestead.
