This former farmhouse is on 80 bucolic acres against a backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with a fishing pond, rolling pastures, and 7 1/2 acres of vineyards spread across the foreground. An equestrian center on-site boards horses (you may bring your own) and trains them for riders; there's also a polo ring and steeplechase course. The guest rooms, simply furnished with light woods and lace curtains, are pleasing; the four upstairs have private balconies. The restaurant ($$$) uses many local ingredients for a menu that includes catfish and various Mediterranean dishes; it's closed Monday and Tuesday.

What this restaurant has done is nothing short of a miracle. Taken from abysmal ownership and conditions, this staff has vigorously worked to restore this pristine restaurant to it's original status. The menu is delightful and ever changing, the rooms are beautiful- vibrantly painted with fresh flowers and cookies in every one. Stop in, relax, have a romantic dinner, and then venture to the pub (boy what a change there!)and have a few cocktails. I recommend going for a Friday-Saturday getaway (Friday night is live music) but Sunday brunch is also something to die for. Ignore the negative reviews and see for yourselves- from one customer to another- you wont be disappointed!! (trust me- I had a TERRIBLE experience there a few years back..then decided to bring my husband back for a re-try when we heard the words 'new ownership'..we're hooked now!)RATING: 5.0
