For a taste of Southern history, spend a night at this country inn of 1850. Once a plantation house, it's on 56 acres 6 mi north of Lexington. All rooms have period antiques and modern amenities; most have gas log fireplaces as well. Dinner is served in three ground-floor rooms and on a glassed-in patio; the main dining room ($$-$$$) has a large decorative fireplace. Among notable entrées on the seasonal menu are beef fillet with green peppercorn sauce and chicken Chesapeake, a chicken breast stuffed with spinach and crabmeat.
