Highlighting the country elegance of this 1848 inn, a short walk from the Vermont Country Store and Weston Playhouse, is innkeeper Bob Aldrich's collection of 500 orchid species—rare and beautiful specimens surround the dining table in the gazebo and others enrich the indoors. Rooms in the inn, carriage house, and Coleman House (across the street) are comfortably appointed, and some have fireplaces. The restaurant ($$$; closed Monday) serves contemporary regional cuisine amid candlelight. Vermont cheddar cheese and Granny Smith-apple omelets are popular choices for breakfast. Pros: great rooms; terrific town location. Cons: top end rooms are expensive.
