Mistral's at Toll Gate Review

This classic French restaurant is tucked in a grotto on the climb to Bromley Mountain. The two dining rooms are perched over the Bromley Brook, and at night lights magically illuminate a small waterfall. Ask for a window table. Specialties include Chateaubriand béarnaise and rack of lamb with rosemary for two. Chef Dana Markey's crispy sweetbreads with Dijonnaise sauce are a favorite.

    Stay Away

Spent a wonderful weekend at the Equinox. The concierge recommended Mistral for an elegant evening. Anything but. The service was terrible. The room was musty and outdated. The clientele was deicedly un-hip. Can't tell you about the food--- after not getting any attention, we walked out.

    Mistral's Review

I made reservations months in advance for this place. After walking in with my mother and girlfriend, we were left waiting stupidly for 10 minutes before a grim faced "hostess" I can only assume was the owner or his wife brusquely informed me that we would have to wait. After 30 minutes, during which I observed empty tables and other parties arriving and being seated, we were given a table. Only, of course, to wait some more. At that point, after a further ten minutes, I got up to get some menus, and the harpie faced hostess got the point and begrudgingly delivered them to our table with an icy smile. The waiter and food were great, but the staff looked oppressed and unhappy, and the entire place was stuffy and somnolent.
