Wilburton Inn

257 River Rd., Manchester, Vermont, 05254, USA

Stepping into this hilltop 1902 Tudor-style mansion, you might think you've stumbled on a lavish film set: there's a palpably cinematic quality to the richly paneled guest rooms and the common rooms containing part of the owners' vast art collection. All of it makes an ideal setting for the seasonal murder-mystery evenings. Besides the main inn, six guest buildings are spread over the 20-acre grounds (not to mention a "small" mansion just down the road), which are dotted with fascinating sculptures collected and created by innkeeper Albert Levis. The dining room is an elegant affair, with a menu to match. Entrées may include poached Maine lobster with gnocchi or a roasted antelope chop with bordelaise sauce.
