Forty Putney Road

192 Putney Rd., Brattleboro, Vermont, 05301, USA

Realizing her dream to run an inn, Rhonda Calhoun took over this 1931 French-style manse and has added her own colorful touches to the original features. Thoughtful and comforting details abound, such as the minirefrigerator stocked with complimentary soda, water, granola bars, and chips, as well as gas fireplaces in several guest rooms. Other indoor and outdoor treats include a hot tub, a billiards table, and the neighboring Retreat Meadows, a bird sanctuary that has good hiking trails. There's no restaurant, but the on-site pub serves good beers and decent food, and breakfast (included) is fabulous.
