Highland Lodge Review

Tranquility reigns at this 1860 house overlooking a pristine lake. The lodge's 120 acres of rambling woods and pastures are laced with hiking and skiing trails (ski rentals available). Comfortable guest rooms have Early American-style furnishings; most have views of the lake. The one-to-three-bedroom cottages are more private (four with gas stoves stay open in winter). The lodge has canoes, kayaks, Sunfish, and paddleboats. There's also a game room with foosball, Ping-Pong, puzzles, and books. In winter there's a complete cross-country touring center; 31 mi of groomed trails connect to the Craftsbuty Outdoor Center. The traditional dinner menu might include such entrées as roast leg of lamb.
