Topnotch Resort and Spa Review

On 120 acres overlooking Mt. Mansfield, this posh property has a contemporary look and outstanding spa. Floor-to-ceiling windows, a freestanding fireplace, and heavy stone walls distinguish the lobby. Topnotch tops everything in the area with its country-chic, spacious rooms with plush beds and robes, designer linens, and other accents like painted barn-board walls. Norma's restaurant ($$-$$$) serves contemporary Continental cuisine with an emphasis on local foods in a romantic setting surrounded by torches. Service throughout the resort is impeccable. Afternoon tea, homemade cookies upon arrival, and spa products in all the rooms add small touches of luxury and warmth. The tennis center has marvelous indoor and outdoor courts—easily the best facilities in Vermont—and a instructional staff to match. Guests can cross-country ski, mountain bike and hike right on the property; yoga, pilates, and fitness classes are offered all day in the spa area.
