Billings Farm and Museum

Billings Farm and Museum Review

Founded by Frederick Billings in 1871 as a model dairy farm, this is one of the oldest dairy farms in the country and sits on the property that was the childhood home of George Perkins Marsh. Concerned about the loss of New England's forests to overgrazing, Billings planted thousands of trees and put into practice Marsh's conservationist farming ideas. Exhibits in the reconstructed Queen Anne farmhouse, school, general store, workshop, and former Marsh homestead demonstrate the lives and skills of early Vermont settlers.
