Each room in this handsomely restored 1793 country home has Queen Anne-style furnishings and period antiques. From the old barn, the inn runs bike and canoe rentals, a fly-fishing school, and kayak and canoe trips. Eleven miles of cross-country and hiking trails are on property. Guests also have privileges at the Quechee Club, a private golf, tennis, and ski club. The dining room's ($$-$$$) creative entrées include shellfish bouillabaisse and rack of lamb with green peppercorn pesto. Pros: historic, spacious property. Cons: bathrooms are clean but out-of-date.
