Swift House Inn

25 Stewart La., Middlebury, Vermont, 05753, USA

The 1814 Georgian home of a 19th-century governor has white-panel wainscoting, mahogany furnishings, and marble fireplaces. The stellar rooms, most with Oriental rugs and half with fireplaces, have period reproductions like canopy beds, curtains with swags, and claw-foot tubs. Some bathrooms have double whirlpool tubs. Rooms in the attractive gatehouse suffer from street noise, but have charm and represent a solid value. The seven-room carriage house has more expensive rooms with wood-burning fireplaces and king-size beds.
