Bird-watching in Zion National Park

Approximately 290 bird species call Zion Canyon home or else pass through its environs on occasion. Some species, such as the white-throated swift and the powerful peregrine falcon, take full advantage of the towering cliffs. Closer to the ground are the common pinyon jay and, if you look closely enough, perhaps a Gambel's quail. Wild turkeys are not only common, but some aren't very wild, venturing up to visitors looking for a handout. If you're quick, you might spot one of nine species of hummingbirds that have been spotted feeding at various Zion Canyon blossoms.
