Park City Museum

Fodor's Review:

The Park City Museum, one of the best small museums in Utah, is housed in Park City's old Territorial Jail. Though exhibits are closed for the museum's expansion until spring 2009, the Park City Historical Society offers one-hour guided walking tours on Main Street from June through September. The temporary location for the museum until the renovations are complete is 333 Main Street, Suite 24.The tours start at 2 PM Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Other tours include historian-led daylong hikes and ski tours around Park City and the Wasatch Mountains that combine recreation and mining lore. Most of the tours, which focus on mining, railroad, or architectural history, begin in town; some include transportation to more distant locations. Call ahead for meeting locations. You must be a member to participate in the tours, but it's easy to join in advance over the Internet: membership is $25 for one person or $50 for a family. Each June the Park City Historical Society sponsors the Historic Home Tour, when many homeowners open their restored 19th-century homes in the historic section of Park City to the public. Food and drink receptions are provided by some of the best eateries in this resort area. The tour is self-guided.
