On the edge of town, White Pine Touring (On Park City Golf Course, Rte. 224. 435/649-6249. www.whitepinetouring.com) offers 20 km (12 mi) of set track, cross-country ski instruction, equipment rentals, and a well-stocked cross-country ski shop. The fee to use the track is $18 or $10 after 3 PM. Reservations are required for their guided backcountry ski and snowshoe tours in the surrounding mountains.

Equipment Rentals

Many shops in Park City rent equipment for skiing and other sports. Closed May-Nov.), which also rents clothing and helmets. Jans Mountain Outfitters (1600 Park Ave. 435/649-4949 or 800/745-1020. www.jans.com.) rents ski and snowboard equipment packages and clothing in winter and bikes in summer. Jans "test program" allows you to rent high-end gear and apply the rental fee toward equipment purchase.

At the base of Park City Mountain Resort, Park City Sport (1335 Lowell Ave. 435/645-7777 or 800/523-3922. Closed May-Oct.) is a convenient place to rent ski and snowboard equipment. You can drop off your personal gear at the end of a ski day and they'll have it tuned and ready for you the next morning.
