Eroding sandstone formed the sweeping expanse of pink sand at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Funneled through a notch in the rock, the wind picks up speed and carries grains of sand into the area. Once the wind slows down, the sand is deposited, creating this giant playground for dune buggies, ATVs, and dirt bikes. A small area is fenced off for walking, but the sound of wheeled toys is always with you. Children love to play in the sand, but before you let them loose, check the surface temperature; it can become very hot.
