Calf Creek Falls Trail. Those seeking a moderately difficult 5½-mile round-trip hike will enjoy the excursion that begins from the trailhead at Calf Creek Recreation Area, 8 miles south of Boulder. Along the way hikers will pass sandstone cliffs, beaver ponds, and prehistoric rock art sites. At the end of the trail, 126-feet-tall Lower Calf Creek Falls explodes over a cliff. Bird-watchers should keep an eye out for many species, including golden eagles, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and western bluebirds that enjoy the vegetation and water at the bottom of the canyon.
