The best way to experience Great Salt Lake is a half-day excursion to Antelope Island, or longer if you like to hike. There’s no place in the country like this state park, home to millions of waterfowl and hundreds of bison and antelope, and surrounded by some of the saltiest water on earth. Driving the 7-mile narrow causeway that links the shoreline provides an appropriate sense of isolation. Once you arrive, you can explore the historic ranch house and miles of hiking trails, and even sample a buffalo burger at the small café.
