Fodor's Review

Although the Mormon Temple just to the west is Salt Lake's most prominent religious landmark, this red Romanesque cathedral stands high above the city's north side and is a stunning house of worship in its own right. The exterior bristles with gargoyles, and its Gothic interior showcases bright frescoes, intricate wood carvings, and a 4,066-pipe organ. The highly regarded Madeleine children's choir gives concerts regularly (especially during the Christmas season), and

tours of the cathedral are offered every Sunday at 12:30. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

An anomaly in the city

Old style Catholic cathedral is unusual in this Mormon city. Worth a look on the way out to taking a Governor's Mansion tour.
