Salt Lake City Sights

Red Butte Garden and Arboretum

Updated 04/29/2014

Fodor's Review

With more than 100 acres of gardens and undeveloped acres, the grounds here provide many pleasurable hours of strolling. Of special interest are the Perennial, Fragrance, and Medicinal gardens, the Daylily Collection, the Water Pavilion, and the Children's Garden. Lectures on everything from bugs to gardening in arid climates, workshops, and concerts are presented regularly. The popular Summer Concert Series attracts well-known musicians from Tony Bennett to Vampire Weekend.

The pristine amphitheater seats approximately 3,000 people on its expansive lawn. The Botanic Gift Shop offers books, soaps, sculptures, and fine gifts.

Excellent gardens

This is the University of Utah's Garden/Arboretum in a lovely setting. Plenty of themed gardens, unspoiled hiking trails, and nice views. A great getaway. Not easy to reach without a car, though, unless you hitch a ride onto the University's shuttle bus system.

It takes a brain to enjoy this tourist site

The Gardens are as the name states gardens, if you want to learn about Utah plants and environment it's a good place to go, If you want to hike peaks and waterfalls go somewhere else. They also have a great concert series in the summer.
