Great Salt Lake

No visit to Utah is quite complete without a trip to the Great Salt Lake. This wonder of the world is actually more popular with tourists than locals. This was not always the case, but drastic changes in lake levels keep the state and private developers from cashing in on this unique site so close to a major city. Because the lake is so shallow, an inch or two of change in the lake's depth translates into yards of sticky

mud between the sandy beach and water deep enough to float in. This shouldn't keep anyone from taking a cruise on the lake or visiting Antelope Island, where the shore dynamics are much different.
