With spectacular views of Monument Valley from each room's private balcony, this motel often serves as headquarters for film crews. The lodge has handsome stucco buildings and all the rooms have balconies, coffeemakers, and hair dryers. The on-premises Stagecoach restaurant ($-$$$) serves the area favorite, a Navajo taco, or you can eat traditional American entrées; breakfasts are particularly good. Goulding's also conducts custom-guided tours of Monument Valley and provides Navajo guides into the backcountry. The lodge is 2 mi off U.S. 163, at the Monument Valley Tribal Park turnoff. Pros: This place is truly a slice of American history. And the views! Cons: It's miles from anything in any direction.
