Dinosaurland and Eastern Utah Sights

Helper and Price, towns rich in mining and railroad history as well as in dinosaur fossils, are only a couple of hours southeast of Salt Lake City. Price is the largest city on U.S. 6, the major route between the Wasatch Front and the southeastern portion of the state (and the quickest way to reach I-70 if you're headed east into Colorado). Vernal and Dinosaur National Monument (which spans the Utah-Colorado border) are four hours east of Salt Lake City on Route 40, or three hours northeast of Price via U.S. 191 and U.S. 40. Flaming Gorge is 40 mi north of Vernal via U.S. 191. The Uinta Mountains and the High Uintas Wilderness Area are about 1½ hours east of Salt Lake City, first via I-80 and U.S. 40 to Kamas and then via Route 150.
