Capitol Reef National Park Sights

The Waterpocket Fold

Fodor's Review

A giant wrinkle in the earth extends almost 100 miles between Thousand Lake Mountain and Lake Powell. You can glimpse the fold by driving south on Scenic Drive, after it branches off Highway 24, past the Fruita Historic District, but for complete immersion enter the park via the 36-mile Burr Trail from Boulder. Travel through the southernmost reaches of the park is largely on unpaved roads. It's accessible to most vehicles during dry weather, but check with the visitor center for current road conditions.
