Burr Trail Scenic Backway

Fodor's Review:

Branching east off Highway 12 in Boulder, Burr Trail travels through the Circle Cliffs area of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument into Capitol Reef. The views are of backcountry canyons and gulches. The road is paved between Boulder and the eastern boundary of Capitol Reef. It leads into a hair-raising set of switchbacks—not suitable for RVs or trailers—that ascends 800 feet in a half mile. Before attempting to drive this route, check with the Capitol Reef Visitor Center for road conditions. From Boulder to its intersection with Notom-Bullfrog Road the route is 36 mi long.
