Visited once by former President Jimmy Carter, this luxury inn is truly "one of the best-kept secret travel destinations" in Texas, as it bills itself. Tucked away near the tiny town of Los Fresnos, it sits on 40 acres of gorgeous prairies and native brush land. Although it is off the beaten path, the inn is minutes from Laguna Atascosa, South Padre Island, and the heart of Brownsville.
