Matamoros

Unfortunately, Matamoros is the perfect example of a once-fun border town that has now become complicated. Brownsville residents used to love to cross into this neighboring town, but police corruption and drug cartel activities had grown so rampant by early 2008 that the Mexican government brought in the military to calm the crisis. The sight of green-clad soldiers carrying machine guns has been disconcerting to local Mexicans and tourists alike.
