La Fonda on Main Review

Open for business in San Antonio since 1932, this family-friendly restaurant in a hacienda-like building is fun and casual, but still upscale. The beautiful dining room opens onto an inviting outdoor patio. The traditional Mexican fare includes such as steak Tampiquena ("Tampico-style": grilled tenderloin strips with a green enchilada and charro beans ) and a variety of enchiladas. Several Tex-Mex specialties also populate a robust menu. Flan and tres leches cake ("three milks" cake—a butter cake soaked in sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and cream) are made daily, and the vibrant bar delivers tasty margaritas.

    La Fonda on Main Review

    Table on patio at 7pm on Sunday, weather was great and was craving some authentic Mexican or better than average Tex-mex. The servers were great and the specials not on the menu were sublime, fried oysters reminded me of grandma's. When the carne asada arrived I honestly had to pause (great margaritas) because the plate looked so good. The steak exploded on my fork and had me immediately thinking about writing this review. Needless to say the meal was excellent and both my stomach and I are now content that we've found a great place for Mexican on a quite side of town. We will definitely be coming back. Dinner for two was $50 and, in my opinion, worth every cent.

    Food good, service lousy.

    We had dinner here on a Wednesday at 8PM during spring break week. They were not very busy as we could see at least 8 empty tables inside. The patio was a little more busy, but still not full. We waited about 7 minutes for chips and hot sauce after being seated right away and then after we ordered, that took another 30 minutes. It was a not a great experience with 4 children. The food was good though. I will have to try this restaurant again when I am in town just for the food.

    Great food

    A wonderful meal in a beautiful restaurant. Service was first-rate. Food is authentic and tastes great. Highly recommend!
