In the restored Alamo National Bank building right on the river, the Drury Plaza is giving many of the pricier full-service hotels some competition. It sticks to the formula that makes Drury hotels popular with many budget and leisure travelers: good prices and lots of perks (full breakfast, complimentary cocktail hour). There's a rooftop pool, and riverfront rooms have excellent views. At this writing, a major expansion planned for fall 2008 will bring an indoor pool and two restaurants, one with riverside dining. Pros: Ideal for families, just a few steps from the city's top attractions. Cons: Needs the planned updates to spruce up decor and amenities.

Not fancy, though the lobby decorations from the old bank days are neat. Rooms and baths are large and comfortable. Decent happy hour and breakfast. Convenient to River Walk
