San Antonio's most bohemian boutique hotel occupies a Mediterranean Revival structure built in 1914 and feels as though you've wandered into an exotic British-colonial gentleman's club. You'll find teak and wicker chairs from India, beds fashioned from the grillwork of old buildings, and vintage chairs from French hotels and bistros. Don't miss Club Cohiba, the martini bar in the basement. It's a good 10-minute walk to most River Walk restaurants and bars, which is not all bad if you want to avoid the noise of late-night revelers. A trolley stop serving all downtown attractions is a block away. Pros: One of the city's truly unique lodging experiences, decadent and sophisticated, first-rate staff. Cons: Must book many months in advance, extremely pricey in peak season, not family friendly.
