Crockett Hotel

320 Bonham St., San Antonio, Texas, 78205, United States

Built in 1909 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this hotel (named for frontiersman Davy Crockett) is a relic of turn-of-the-20th-century San Antonio. Location is the big selling point here: you're 10 steps from the Alamo, River Walk, and many sights. The seven-story, light-filled, sandstone-brick atrium lobby with leather club chairs is impressive; some rooms look out onto it. Rooms were thoroughly updated in 2007; they are contemporary and spotless, though a bit bland in the decor department.

CONS
