This domed and colonnaded structure, located on a portion of Sam Houston's farm, documents in detail the statesman's remarkable career as leader of the fight for Texas independence and both president of the Republic of Texas and governor of Texas after it joined the union. The museum also focuses on Houston's lesser-known early life as a frontiersman and governor of Tennessee—he's the only American to have served as governor of two states. Houston's modest homes, as well as his law office and other original and replica structures, are located on the grounds outside the museum.
