Fodor's Review

Southwestern dishes, Mexican-inspired fare, and sizzling steaks are the specialties at Candelilla, within walking distance if you're parked at the Lajitas Resort. Order the cream of avocado if it happens to be the soup of the day. The complimentary chips are freshly made, accompanied by a rich, garlicky salsa that's not too hot. Glass walls in this understated yet elegant room give you unobstructed views of sunsets, and a quick stroll next door finds you a nightcap at

the Thirsty Goat Saloon, named for a legendary goat who liked Lone Star beer and was even elected "mayor" of Lajitas.
