Fodor's Review

What used to be a fading 1938 motor court is now a fun and funky motel. On the hopping South Congress stretch of trendy restaurants, clubs, and shops, this crash pad is a favorite with musicians and artsy folk, who hang by the pool and hot tub, with whimsical concrete statuary for company. Imaginative rooms range from sedate to outrageous and from a diminutive all-white room to palatial pool-view rooms. The '70s-style Flamingo Room is decked out with shag pillows and blue,

pink, and turquoise leatherette chairs. The staff aims to please.

Yes, it's funky and fun-rooms are not for everyone

Very cool and funky motel. First night had one of the basic rooms which, even for the great rate, was shabby. Then spent two nights in a poolside suite which was better. Cool neighborhood. Next time I'd spent a little more and stay at Hotel San Jose.

You can be so close, or so far....

The first room (we give it a 3 out of 5) we stayed in was so-so, old extremely noisy ac unit, with one nob to switch. Kinda sparse, but very, very clean. The second night we stayed in one of the suites (we give that one a 5!) It was like staying in a different place. Was so worth the extra $19 dollars! Go for the $88 suite. Staff was great, pool relaxing...bonus that there wasn't hordes of children splashing about. Great location too!

Coolest Place to Stay in Austin

OMG!!! Just stayed at this ultra hip place!! Fodor's was totally right!! The place has different rooms in each section! I can't wait to go back!!!! And it was soooo close to downtown. I could either walk or catch the bus! I also stayed at the other place on South Congress for one night---Hotel San Joe-- not a nice place--unless you are a stale corpse..then that's the place to be.. Can't wait to go back!!!
