History and modern amenities come together in this exquisite boutique hotel near the southern edge of UT's main campus. The Goodall Wooten house, a Texas Historic Landmark completed in 1900, was of fairly simple design until 1910, when the owners remodeled it into a grand Classical Revival mansion. All rooms have high-speed Internet connections, and there's twice-daily maid service. Little touches—his and hers bathrobes, extra pillows, and beautiful bathrooms (in the more expensive wing)—make the difference. There's also an exceptional, fine-dining restaurant, a handsome bar, and occasional cabaret performances in the second-floor banquet hall. Pros: Beautifully restored, historic, perfect for romantic getaways, attentive staff. Cons: Parking somewhat limited, no pool.

Stayed for a weekend and felt as though I was living in my own place ... if it were a mansion. Beautiful room and a charming courtyard. Off a busy street, but didn't stop us from enjoying drinks on the wrap around porch. Dinner was excellent, though pricey. Worth the price for a very special treat all around.
