Fodor's Review:

In a humble small-town setting 30 minutes northeast of Memphis, this family-owned joint serves up some of the region's best crisp fried chicken with coleslaw and baked beans. It's not for the timid—the seasoning includes spicy red pepper. Guests sit in booths and blues plays in the background. Credit cards aren't accepted for orders under $10.

May be the best fried chicken ever but I'll never know. Walked into the Bartlett location at 7:30PM on a Thursday evening to find out they were not taking any more orders! The big, bright neon light out front said "OPEN". Obviously they were not!

When I questioned the "open" sign, I got a response of "I'll ask about that" so I turned it off on my way out!!!!!!! Avoid this place at all costs!

The service at the newly opened Southaven location is horrible. We had to ask for refills on our drinks. It took over an hour to get our food. Some tables that came in 30 minutes after us were served before we were. Another couple we talked to had been there before us and did not get served until we had finished. The Chicken was good but the sides were cold.

I just read the review on Gus's Fried Chicken, Bartlett location, and I was just horrified of what was written in the review of: (Guss1234, from Cordova, TN on 06/04/2007). Since I work there, I know simple facts that contradict with that review, the place have NO OFFICE, and there is NO TV inside the kitchen that the manager can watch. By the way, the "manager" is actually a cook there, and he has no time to take a lunch break, let alone watch TV. And such bad words will NEVER come out of the manager's mouth to his customer, the first thing that I was told when I started working there: "the customer always right rule". The person who wrote this review is obviously trying to damage the business's reputation, please don't fall for that! The restaurant is a very family friendly place to be. I actually take my kids to work with me, and if you decide to pay us a visit at Gus's, you may see my kids there! and believe me, I will never let my kids to be subject to such language or the programs that this person is talking about. But, don't take my word for it, just go to Gus's, Bartlett location and see for your self the real atmosphere there, and you can also ask to see that imaginary office this person is talking about, because it does not exist, and do not let an angry person stop you from enjoying the good food, family-friendly atmosphere we have at Gus's.
And to that person who wrote that inaccurate information about the place, have you ever heard about (DEFAMATION) If you are so sure about what you wrote, please come to the restaurant, and tell us face to face what you "witnessed", please don't hide behind your computer and write what ever comes to mind and try to ruin the livelihood of the families that work there.

Well the new owner doesn't have everything in order yet. My family and I attempted to eat at the Gus's in Bartlett last Thursday and we walked out before the Chicken ever arrived at the table. After asking to have the TV station changed three times (Unacceptable program for a dining room) the manager step out and stated he had never seen such F---in big babies. So at that point it was time to leave. Of course we were the only customers in the restaurant. You see all the TV's were linked together and he wanted to watch from his office the nasty program. So if you go to Gus's in Bartlett expect to see something like Jerry Springer on the TV and don't bother to ask to have the program changed. You'll just get cussed out. Sorry Gus but I'll never step foot in another one of your restaurants.

The Gus's franchise at Bartlett/Wolfchase has a new owner. He has corrected the mistakes of the previous owner -- including getting rid of the horrendous heat lamp! Now the chicken is piping hot and spicy and made to order. Delicious!!!

Well I'm from Cleveland Ohio and I'll be in Memphis in a week and the first place me and my family is going to stop once we get there is Gus-es. We went on a tour last year for my birthday which is during the time of memphis in may and I had a great time, but on the tour the guide told us that he knew a place that had the best chicken in the world that would make you slap your mama and we went that night to see if it was true and you no what he wasn't lying. We also had the fried green tomatoes and the fried pickles and I'll tell you I could have slap my mother-in-law to the new millinium so we will be there soon and I can't wait.
