Fodor's Review

This popular midtown hangout offers a healthy version of Mexican cuisine (no animal fats are used), including spinach enchiladas, vegetarian burritos, and chile rellenos (cheese-stuffed fried green chilies).

Live in the area, and I avoid it like the plague.

I live in the neighborhood, and have all of my life. So, I am very familiar with Cafe Ole. Over the past couple of years the prices have gone way up, and the quality of food and service, way down. My husband and I ate there 2 days ago and not only did our server spill two full drinks on my husband, but as we sat eating our meal (which left a lot to be desired), we were greeted by a roach. My husband manages a legendary Midtown restaurant...so we are

aware of how service and food is not always perfect. But, this was the worst experience we have had in quite some time. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Best little taco house in Memphis!

Cafe Ole has had its problems in the past but I have been very impressed the past two years with the consistency of product you get from there which they did not have in the past! Whatever theuy are doing they need to keep it up! They offer a varietal Mexican from coastal to southern, to Tex-Mex! The Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp are so incredibly delicious that I have trouble describing them. Combined with their patio and margaritas, I would say it

is the most enjoyable place to hang out!

great ambience + great food

Ambience is excellent. Sit on the BIG deck between two buildings and you may seem to have been transported to an outdoor Mexican cantina. Or take a second look and pretend it's New Orleans. Atmosphere and service are both excellent. The food? Good, very good, but not 5 star. Not the Peabody, but they don't pretend to be that. 4 out of 5. Value? Pretty good, though some of their prices are a bit high (3), but if that is what pays for the

ambience and atmosphere and service, I'll say a (5). (3) and (5) average 4

You call this Mexican?

Been to Cafe Ole twice. I think we must have forgotten how horrendous the food was the first time and went back because the outside is so darn cute. The chips and salsa were passable but the rest of the food- all around the table (there were 5 of us)- was just plain bad. The chicken dishes were tasteless and, nostalgic for San Diego, we ordered the new fish tacos (a delicious dish when done correctly) which were made with fish so old it actually

smelled somewhat rotten. Even the rice was dry and poorly seasoned. Too bad this place has such a great location.
